È ormai trascorsa una settimana dall’evento più antico d’Italia, dedicato all’equitazione: Fieracavalli Verona. Giunta alla sua 121° edizione, questa manifestazione si conferma come l’appuntamento in cui ogni approccio al cavallo trova il suo perché: la gara, lo spettacolo, lo shopping, l’arte, la storia, la formazione, il wellness, il turismo e chi più ne ha ne metta. Fieracavalli non coinvolge infatti i soli addetti ai lavori, ma crea un’atmosfera che avvolge chiunque si trovi a Verona nel fine settimana a tema equestre. Ed è così che per qualche giorno ci si dimentica di Romeo e Giulietta per ‘darsi all’ippica’. Non solo il quartiere fieristico, ma tutta la città si ‘tuffa’ in questo mood. Passeggiando lungo le strade del centro scaligero, lo sguardo rimane inevitabilmente catturato dalle innumerevoli vetrine che a loro modo celebrano questo grande evento. Da Christian Dior che ripropone nella nuova collezione Crociera 2020 l’iconica borsetta Saddle, per passare ai negozi di moda maschile che espongono ricercati calzini di Gallo o gemelli con l’effige di un cavallo e ai più accessibili maglioncini di Benetton ispirati al tema della settimana senza dimenticare i coloratissimi orologi Swatch adagiati fra un cap e una staffa. In caso si volesse creare un outfit interamente dedicato ai cavalli, non ci sono più scuse, sapete come fare! Meno ‘nobili’ invece i menu dei ristoranti veronesi che, ahimè, nei giorni di fiera sfoggiano con orgoglio piatti a base di carne equina… c’è ancora molta strada da fare in questo senso e sicuramente un grande segnale a favore del benessere dei cavalli viene dalla scelta di dedicare la 121esima fiera alle tematiche dell’etica e della sostenibilità. A tal proposito, per ricordare a tutti l’inizio dell’evento, è stato possibile ammirare, sparse per la città, grandi istallazioni raffiguranti le opere dell’artista Federica Crestani, in cui il cavallo è interpretato secondo i quattro elementi aristotelici: aria, acqua, terra e fuoco. Il rapporto tra arte e cavallo, la fa poi da padrone con lo Stallone, statua bronzea di Nag Arnoldi che ormai dal 2017 è diventata simbolo della manifestazione. Altre sue produzioni sul tema sono state contemporaneamente in mostra nelle principali gallerie d’arte della città. A invogliare i passanti a non perdere l’appuntamento fieristico, anche quest’anno, non è mancata la tradizionale sfilata di carrozze ottocentesche per le vie del centro, guidata da equipaggi in costume d’epoca, ma ancora una volta i grandi protagonisti restano i cavalli! Nel Jumping Verona, per il GP di Coppa del mondo, l’Italia è stata presente con otto cavalieri di cui tre, arrivando in barrage, si sono aggiudicati un doppio percorso netto. Formidabile performance quella di Emanuele Gaudiano che insieme a Chalou ha conquistato il quarto posto a soli trenta centesimi di secondo dal vincitore Scott Brash. Per un soffio sfuma la vittoria, ma questo fa ben sperare in una qualificazione individuale del cavaliere lucano per i Giochi Olimpici di Tokyo 2020.

It has been a week since the most ancient event in Italy, dedicated to horse riding: Fieracavalli Verona. Now in its 121st edition, this event is confirmed as the appointment in which every approach to the horse finds its reason: the competition, the show, shopping, art, history, education, wellness, tourism, you name it. In fact, Fieracavalli does not involve only the experts, but creates an atmosphere that envelops anyone who is in Verona on the equestrian weekend. So for a few days we forget about Romeo and Juliet to ‘give us horse riding’. Not only the fairgrounds, but the whole city ‘plunges’ into this mood. Walking along the streets of the Scaligero center, the look inevitably captures the innumerable windows that in their own way celebrate this great event. From Christian Dior that proposes the iconic Saddle bag in the new Crociera 2020 collection, to go to men’s fashion stores that display sophisticated Gallo socks or cufflinks with the effigy of a horse and to the most accessible Benetton sweaters inspired by the theme of the week without forgetting the colorful Swatch watches lying between a cap and a stirrup. If you want to create an outfit entirely dedicated to horses, there are no more excuses, you know how to do it! Less ‘noble’ instead are the menus of Veronese restaurants that, alas, proudly display horsemeat dishes in the days of the fair … there is still a long way to go in this sense and certainly a great sign in favor of horse welfare comes from the choice to dedicate the 121st fair to ethics and sustainability issues. In this regard, to remind everyone of the beginning of the event, it was possible to admire, scattered throughout the city, large installations depicting the works of the artist Federica Crestani, in which the horse is interpreted according to the four Aristotelian elements: aria, water, earth and fire. The relationship between art and horse, is then the master with the Stallone, a bronze statue of Nag Arnoldi that by 2017 has become a symbol of the event. His other productions on the subject were simultaneously on display in the city’s main art galleries. To entice passers-by not to miss the fair appointment, also this year, there was the traditional parade of nineteenth-century carriages through the streets of the center, guided by crews in period costumes, but once again the great protagonists remain the horses! In the Jumping Verona, for the World Cup GP, Italy was present with eight riders, three of whom, arriving in barrage, won a double net run. A formidable performance was that Emanuele Gaudiano’s who, together with Chalou, took fourth place just thirty hundredths of a second behind the winner Scott Brash. For a breath the victory fades, but this bodes well for an individual qualification of the Lucan rider for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
